Wood Ducks Edge Past Nuts, 7-6
|
Fans watched the Down East Wood Ducks and the Modesto Nuts fight to the finish.
Though he had a stellar game, Doug Kipfer could not prevent his team, the Modesto Nuts, from losing, 7-6, to the Down East Wood Ducks. Kipfer went 3-3 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Josh Spadaro earned the save for Down East, his 8th.
Down East used the timely hitting of Tim Goodrich to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Wood Ducks on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Nice to get this one," said Goodrich. "Wins have been hard to come by."
Down East occupies 9th place in the CAR/CAL Carolina League at 33-73.
