Hillcats Bounce Keys, 5-1

The Lynchburg Hillcats knocked off the Frederick Keys, 5-1, in CAR/CAL action at Harry Grove Stadium. Lynchburg pitcher and Salt Lake City, Utah, native Malik Whitmer had an outstanding performance. The winner was Whitmer. He threw 7.2 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Chris Durkin. Picking up the save was Tim Lehmen, his 13th.
Alex Lopez helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he cranked a run-scoring single to give Lynchburg a 1-0 lead.
"This is not a one-man show," said Whitmer. "A lot of the guys stepped up."
Their 22-24 record puts the Hillcats 5th in the CAR/CAL Carolina League.
