5-0 Braves Win over Renegades Evens Season Record
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Reading Braves take on the Hudson Valley Renegades.
Right-hander Phil Pope mesmerized the Hudson Valley Renegades while leading the Reading Braves to a 5-0 victory. Pope, the winner, moves to 2-5. He threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks.
David Williams had a big 3-run home run for the Braves in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Reading leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 22-year old left-handed pitcher Jose Mazariegos and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Braves ahead, 4-0.
"Phil has got a slow heartbeat," said Reading manager . "He doesn't panic or anything."
Reading has a record of 31-31, placing them 6th in the New York-Penn League South Division.
