Extra-Inning Win by Yankees Over ValleyCats
|
Despite a great performance by Tri-City first baseman Ron Kujawski, the Staten Island Yankees defeated the ValleyCats by the score of 11-7 in 10 innings at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. Kujawski was 4-5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Randy Morris earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 5 runs on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. His record is now 2-0. The New York-Penn League South Division-leading Yankees have a record of 44-14.
Staten Island used the timely hitting of Jim Bartosch to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Yankees on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Bartosch, "one at-bat at a time."
