Mahoning Valley Loses, 2-1, to Aberdeen in 10
|
The Aberdeen Ironbirds had to overcome a fine effort from Mahoning Valley pitcher Jon Harstad to win, 2-1, at Eastwood Field. Harstad went 7 innings and allowed 1 run. The winner was Eddie Sandoval in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Brian Armannperg took the loss. Jamie Hitzler earned save number 4 this season.
Jimmy Morrison, who is tied for 4th in the NYP with a .441 on-base percentage, had a direct impact on the outcome. Morrison contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Aberdeen up, 2-1.
Morrison called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
The Ironbirds, at 32-20, sit in third place in the New York-Penn League South Division.
