Scrappers Fall, 13-10, to Mayer, Crosscutters
|
The Williamsport-Mahoning Valley matchup turned into a slugfest.
In a high-scoring game between Williamsport and Mahoning Valley, second baseman Chris Mayer was a difference-maker. The 23-year-old helped Williamsport grab the 13-10 win. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Danny Plymale picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-1. Phil Herrington, the 6th overall pick in the 2058 draft, was tagged with the loss. Mike Bermeo earned his 4th save, after closing out the game.
Tied up with the Scrappers in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Crosscutters got a boost from third baseman Chris Gomes. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Gomes saw a 2-2 fastball from Phil Herrington and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Williamsport on top, 4-3.
"We did a lot of good things tonight," said Williamsport manager .
The win gives the Crosscutters a record of 11-35.
