Spikes Get Clutch Win Versus Vermont
|
The State College Spikes took Vermont pitcher Pat Meadows's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Centennial Field. The final score had State College getting past the Lake Monsters, 4-3. Meadows went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 2. Jesus Alicea came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Picking up the save was Josh McCarthy, his 1st.
Had Victor Ramirez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Ramirez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Spikes.
When asked about his performance after the game, Ramirez said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
State College is last in the New York-Penn League South Division with a record of 9-40.
