Loss Mars Fine Effort by Diehl
|
Spirited fans greeted the Vermont Lake Monsters for their clash with the Albany White Sox.
The Albany White Sox withstood an impressive performance by Vermont left fielder Mike Diehl to defeat the Lake Monsters, 7-6, at Centennial Field. Diehl was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Luis Montana was the winner. He's now 3-2. The loser was 21-year old right-handed pitcher Moises Saldana.
Albany used the clutch hitting of Eddie Melendez to snag the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the White Sox ahead, 7-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We took home the win," said Melendez. "What's not to like?"
The White Sox now have a record of 26-21 with the win over Vermont.
