Yankees Spoil Great Performance by Deffenbaugh
|
The Staten Island Yankees overcame a pretty good performance by Lowell second baseman Jimmy Deffenbaugh, beating the Spinners, 7-5, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Deffenbaugh was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Mike Wiser sewed up the save, his 16th. Staten Island, at 35-9, sits in first place in the New York-Penn League South Division.
A key moment came in the bottom of the third inning when Yankees second baseman David Hoyos socked a 3-1 curveball to center for a run-scoring single, putting Staten Island up, 2-0.
"Anytime I can help the team, I feel good about it," said Hoyos.
