Spikes Lose Big to Sea Unicorns, 11-1
|
Norwich and State College got after it at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium.
The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored a convincing win at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, defeating the State College Spikes, 11-1. One of the hitting stars was Ian Gilbreath, who is tied for 3rd in the NYP in stolen bases with 24, who went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 4 runs. Sonny Crowley, who went 6 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 7. His record now stands at 2-0.
Walt Trepton had a big grand slam home run for the Sea Unicorns in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Norwich leading 4-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a fastball from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Justin Winns and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Sea Unicorns on top, 8-1.
"This is one game in a long season," said losing manager . "The sooner we can forget about it, the better."
With the win, the Sea Unicorns have a record of 24-9.
