Sea Unicorns Dismiss Black Bears, 4-2
|
The Norwich Sea Unicorns knocked off the West Virginia Black Bears, 4-2, in New York-Penn League action at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium. Norwich pitcher and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, native Rodolfo Burnias had an outstanding performance. In 6.2 innings, Burnias surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. Brad Eckert earned his 6th save, after closing out the game.
Ian Gilbreath dealt the Black Bears a blow in the bottom of the fifth. Batting with the bases loaded and Norwich leading 1-0, Gilbreath, who is tied for 10th in the NYP in extra base hits with 6, hit a 1-0 changeup for a run-scoring single.
After the game, Norwich manager applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
Norwich goes to 16-6, West Virginia to 16-6.
