The Staten Island Yankees turned back the Albany White Sox, 6-5, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. Joey Timm, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Staten Island reliever Jim Carman picked up the win to move to 1-0. Mike Watkins suffered the loss. Rusty Beck recorded the save for Staten Island, his 4th of the season.

Had Julien Roux not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Roux hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Yankees.

"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," Roux told the Staten Island Citizen.

The Yankees, now 6-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.
