González of Barinas Player of the Week Monday, October 22nd , 1906 22-year-old Gustavo González sent shock waves through Liga Profesional de Beisbol de Venezuela last week with an eye-popping performance that brought him the Liga Oeste Player of the Week Award. A newcomer to the league, González made the establishment sit up and take notice, punishing opposing pitchers with a .414 average, 12 hits in 29 at-bats, no home runs and 1 RBI. Where the Barinas Viajeros center fielder goes from here, only the baseball gods know for sure, but González certainly made his mark last week. For the season, González has produced 131 hits in 469 at-bats for a .279 average with no home runs and gotten on base at a .291 clip. |
