Corozal Downs Cidra as Yáñez Tosses 5-0 Shutout
Thursday, September 5th , 1907
The Corozal Maduritos shut out the Cidra Sabaneros, 5-0, behind the strong pitching of Crisóstomo Yáñez. Yáñez surrendered only 4 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.
Following the last out, Yáñez appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Cidra manager Milcíades Ruiz, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Yáñez's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Sabaneros skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Maduritos press conference, Yáñez confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Yáñez said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Corozal manager Al Atkinson added.
This year, Yáñez has a 9-10 record with a 3.23 ERA in 22 starts.
