Laurel Slaps 5 Hits
Monday, August 13th , 1906
Álvaro Laurel was at the head of a Lajas hit parade at Parquecito de Juana Díaz. The third baseman went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the Fobianos to a nice 16-0 victory over the Juana Diaz Principes.
"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Laurel told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."
Principes skipper Alarico Contreras said later that the club gave up "too much plate."
"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."
Álvaro Laurel hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Guillermo Miranda in the 2nd, hit a three-run double in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
For the season, Laurel is hitting at a .230 clip with 9 home runs, 32 RBIs and has scored 17 runs. He has 51 hits, 18 walks and a .286 on-base percentage.
