Lilac Stockings Torres Stops Hydropathists Wednesday, October 24th , 1906 The Rochester Lilac Stockings shut out the Oswego Hydropathists, 8-0, behind the strong pitching of Martín Torres. Torres surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 1. Following the last out, Torres appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Oswego manager Casto Tavera, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken right-hander as the clubs left the field. Torres's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart. The Hydropathists skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Lilac Stockings press conference, Torres confirmed that it was regarding the celebration. "He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Torres said. "And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Rochester manager Adelio González added.
