New Braunfels Comes up Empty Against Cleary
Monday, May 8th , 1905
David Cleary led the San Marcos Cadavers to a shutout victory, 1-0, over the New Braunfels Yodelers at Cadavers Park.
"My pitching coach told me before the game just to bear down and focus," Cleary recalled later. "He said no one was going to hit me if I'm throwing a good breaking ball with good location."
Cleary yielded 3 hits and had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in the standout performance.
"I thought he put the ball where he wanted to," New Braunfels manager Alfredo Vázquez said. "And that's just about the whole secret to pitching."
