Santiago 5-for-5 Against Highwaymen
Saturday, October 10th , 1903
Some moments become linked with a particular player's career forever. Luis Santiago of the Santa Fe Hollyhocks had one of those moments when he went 5-for-5 at the plate in his team's 11-2 win over the Tucson Highwaymen at Santa Fe Stadium.
"I won't forget this anytime soon, and I don't expect it to happen too often," the 23-year-old right fielder told reporters in the postgame interview. "I'll be happy to just get a hit or two every day. Enough to hang around the league a while longer. Like 10, maybe 15 more years."
Luis Santiago singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 7th.
Santiago has a .312 average and a .336 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 157 hits, 3 home runs and driven in 79 runs.
