Groves Hurls Buffalo to Shutout Victory
Wednesday, August 19th , 1903
Before the game, Frank Groves said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Bisons Stadium, the Bisons pitcher blanked the New York Giants, 6-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Groves said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my slider even when I was behind in the count."
The Buffalo starter held New York scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 8 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Giants manager Chris Petty said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
This year, Groves has gone 12-21 with an ERA of 1.85 and has 192 strikeouts in 302 innings.
