Razor-Sharp Garfias Blanks Guanica
Monday, May 14th , 1906
The Quebradillas Corsarios did little to support starter Alberto Garfias against the Guanica Amigos, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Amigos, striking out 4 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Garfias allowed Quebradillas to escape with the 3-0 win, despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said, 'Alberto, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Garfias told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
For the season, Garfias has logged 7 wins and 4 losses and struck out 55 batters in 94.1 innings while compiling a 1.91 ERA.
