Trujillo Alto Shuts Out Santos, Cruz Winner
Monday, September 28th , 1903
The Adjuntas Santos manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Trujillo Alto Macabeos. The Santos were overpowered by Trujillo Alto starter Curcio Cruz, who hurled his club to victory, 1-0.
"It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," CicerĂ³n Liserio said.
Over 9 innings, Cruz blanked Adjuntas on 7 hits with no walks and 4 strikeouts.
"I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Cruz said.
"I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one."
Thus far this season, Cruz has posted a 16-21 record, started 37 games, struck out 90 batters in 318.2 innings and compiled a 2.97 ERA.
