Hatillo Blanked by Arias, 1-0
Monday, September 28th , 1903
The Hatillo Canarios ran into a buzzsaw at Terreno de los Canarios, as Vega Baja Caneros starter Pirro Arias cut them down to size, 1-0, tossing a 6-hit shutout.
"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," Caneros manager Roberto Rojo told reporters after the game. "Pirro knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game win, the Vega Baja hurler doled out no walks and registered 4 strikeouts.
This year, Arias has a 21-16 mark in 37 starts with a 2.26 ERA. He has given up 281 hits in 334.1 innings, struck out 136 and issued 67 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .231 batting average against him.
