Rivera Shuts Out Vega Baja, 5-0
Wednesday, September 16th , 1903
It wasn't easy but the Ceiba Picudos made it look that way.
Starter Vicente Rivera shut out the Vega Baja Caneros despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Ceiba Picudos cruised to victory, 5-0. Rivera allowed only 3 hits and rang up 7 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.
"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."
This season, Rivera has a 8-10 mark in 18 starts with a 2.12 ERA. He has given up 123 hits in 161.2 innings, struck out 74 and issued 45 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .208 batting average against him.
