Downie Tosses 7-0 Shutout
Monday, September 7th , 1903
The Naguabo Navegadores shut out the Luquillo Soles, 7-0, behind the strong pitching of Ben Downie. Downie surrendered only 1 hit in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.

Following the last out, Downie appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Luquillo manager Norberto Jiménez, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Downie's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.

The Soles skipper would not comment on the exchange but, at the Navegadores press conference, Downie confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.

"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Downie said.

"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Naguabo manager Herminio Salcedo Díaz added.

This season, Downie has crafted a 23-8 mark with a 1.75 ERA in 283.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .194 against him and he has 145 strikeouts.
