Cardiff took on Newport in front of a lively crowd.

A 7-RBI performance from the 21-year old left fielder Ernesto Martínez helped the Cardiff Arcadians beat the Newport Stevedores, 8-4. Taylor Penney came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 1-0.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Arcadians grabbed the lead when Martínez hit his 5th home run of the season. The 3-run home run off Shaun Todd made it 6-3, Cardiff.

"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Martínez.

After today's action, Cardiff sits at 54-60, while Newport falls to 38-76.
