The Luquillo Soles defeated the Vega Baja Caneros, 5-2, in Liga Betances action at Parque de los Cañeros. Luquillo pitcher Gilberto Castillo had a standout performance. Sixto Montalvo claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 1-0. Luquillo, now 60-69, holds down second place in the Liga Betances Noreste.
Luquillo used the clutch hitting of Marcos Picart to snag the win. The second baseman drilled a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Soles ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"I really like what we did out there today," Picart said after the game.
