Ian Maguire of the Maunabo Artilleros was on top of his game.

The 23-year-old tantalized the Vega Alta Martilleros with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 4-0.

"He had the changeup working," Vega Alta manager Jeremías Rodríguez said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Maunabo hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.

Maguire told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

Maguire has made 20 starts this season, posting 8 wins and 12 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .251 against him and he has 62 strikeouts in 154.1 innings with a 3.79 ERA.
