Frios Topple Jinetes, 11-8, as González Shines
|
The Aibonito Frios grabbed a win, 11-8, over the Toa Baja Jinetes at Estadio Herodes García. Aibonito left fielder Erasmo González went 4-5 with 4 singles. He scored 4 runs and drove in 2. Ed Ostrom got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 8 runs on 12 hits in 7.1 innings. Losses have been rare for the Jinetes, who are now 15-2.
Columbano Madrid had a big 2-run double for the Frios in the bottom of the first inning. With Aibonito trailing 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a cutter from Renato Díaz, who is tied for 6th in the LH with a 0.88 WHIP, and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Frios ahead, 2-1.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Frios manager Fernando Chávez. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
