Combatientes Upend Rebeldes, 7-2
|
The Cabo Rojo Combatientes defeated the Moca Rebeldes, 7-2, at Estadio Cresencio Rodríguez. Oscar Martínez, who is on pace for 210 hits this season, was a standout performer for Cabo Rojo. His 4 hits included 3 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Esteban Robles picked up the win with 9 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 1. On the season, he is now 18-10. Cabo Rojo, now 72-48, holds down first place in the Liga Betances Suroeste.
The Combatientes capitalized on an error in the top of the third inning. Cabo Rojo was leading 1-0 when Alberto Monroy hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Cabo Rojo in front, 3-0.
"I thought we competed really well," said Combatientes manager Dick Hunt. "I thought the energy was really good."
