Cuevas Silences Ceiba, 1-0
|
Pablo Cuevas of the Catano Guardacostas was on top of his game.
The 24-year-old tantalized the Ceiba Picudos with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Ceiba manager Mark Sparkman said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Catano hurler had 6 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Cuevas told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season, Cuevas has rung up 17 wins and 11 losses in 31 games. He has an ERA of 2.53 and has fanned 115 batters in 241.2 innings.
