Loiza turned a good effort from starter Cástor Caraballo into a win over the Las Piedras Menestrales at Estadio de los Vejigantes. The Vejigantes won the game, 3-2. Francisco Peña wrapped it up, recording his 11th save. Loiza is in second place in the Liga Hostos Metro Este with a record of 55-64.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the third. That's when Vejigantes second baseman Eusebio Núñez hit a splitter from Celedonio Gutiérrez for a 2-run single. Just like that, Loiza was up, 3-2.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Núñez.
