Coliseo Atlético del Oeste was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Toa Baja Jinetes and Mayaguez Capitanes.

Mayaguez got a decent performance from pitcher Joseph Jesson, but it wasn't enough to beat the Toa Baja Jinetes. Toa Baja won the Coliseo Atlético del Oeste contest, 5-4. Jesson threw 8.1 innings allowing 4 runs for the losing team. Jay Smith, 2-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3 innings.

The most critical at-bat came in the top of the ninth inning. With two out, Harry Jones hit a full count fastball from Homero Escobedo for a run-scoring single. It put Toa Baja in front, 5-4.

"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Jones said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."

The second-place Capitanes dropped to 71-44.
