Both teams had their chances, but the Utuado Arribenos eventually prevailed.
In a low-scoring clash between Utuado and Jayuya, pitcher Jay Thomson was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned praise for his performance in the 3-2 Arribenos win. Thomson, now 11-11, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Miguel García notched his 12th save in 14 chances.
Utuado used the timely hitting of Zacarías Rivera to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Arribenos on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
Rivera said his team "executed a good game plan."
The Arribenos are now 56-44, while the Cerros fall to 42-58.
