Méndez Leads Vega Baja to 12-0 Win Over Canovanas
The Canovanas Chupacabras had no answer for Vega Baja Caneros pitcher Mateo Méndez. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 12-0. Canovanas managed only 3 hits off Méndez, who had 5 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Méndez got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Caneros fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

This season, Méndez has compiled a 11-13 record with a 2.32 ERA.
