Frios Earn Late 3-2 Win
|
Estadio Herodes García was the site of quite a ballgame.
Aibonito pitcher Carlos Ornelas did his part in helping his team defeat the Guayama Hechiceros, 3-2. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Ornelas, now 6-9, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 37-year old first baseman Gabriel Márquez had a real shot to win the game. Guayama pitcher Matías Padilla was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Márquez hit a run-scoring single. The Frios had a walk-off triumph.
"Carlos's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Rigoberto Huante, the Frios manager.
With the win, the Frios improved to 34-37.
