The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.
The Maturin Petroleros converted a terrific effort from starter Ramón Escalante into a win over the Cumana Atunes at Parque de Cumana. The Petroleros won the game by a final score of 3-2. Adán Ávalos, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and no one out in the top of the sixth inning. That's when pinch hitter Íñigo Carnide hit a 2-run single. The Petroleros went on to win.
"We had the right guys up at the right times," said Cumana manager Marcos Ramírez. "We just didn't cash in."
Maturin now has a record of 49-37 with the win.
