Campo de los Petroleros was the site of a tense game between the Cumana Atunes and Maturin Petroleros.
The Maturin Petroleros scored a tight, 3-2 win versus the Cumana Atunes at Campo de los Petroleros. Maturin pitcher Javier Rodríguez held his own in the contest. In 7.2 innings, Rodríguez surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Fred Glenn picked up the save for Maturin, his 2nd of the year.
Benjamim Mariz drove in one run for Maturin. The 21-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Guignard Romanelli. It was his 14th RBI of the season.
"Bottom line," said Cumana skipper Marcos Ramírez, "we didn't play well enough to win."
At 19-16, the Petroleros claim third place in the Liga Este.
