The Catano Guardacostas started the Serie Preliminar in style, downing the visiting Camuy Murcielagos at Parque de los Guardacostas by a score of 4-3 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Guardacostas right-hander Pablo Cuevas threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball.

Atanasio Peña came through for Catano when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth. With a runner on 3rd, he hit a two-strike sinker to center field, staking his team to a 4-3 lead.

"We put together a nice win," Peña said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Parque de los Guardacostas in Cataño.
