Guanica Breaks Through for First Win in Campeonato Nacional Puertorriqueño; Now Trails 3-1
|
The Guanica Amigos have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Rio Grande Cotorras, winning, 3-2, at Estadio Gilberto Martínez. Amigos right-hander Tibulo Rodríguez threw 8.1 innings of 7-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Amigos to 3-1 in the best-of-9 Campeonato Nacional Puertorriqueño.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Amigos had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the third, when third baseman Sebastián Martín hit a run-scoring double. The double came off Ezequiel Vásquez and made the score 3-1, Amigos. Martín went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Rio Grande manager Prisco Aguilera.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Estadio Gilberto Martínez in Guanica.
