The Vega Baja Caneros picked up a win at Parque de los Cañeros, knocking off the Ceiba Picudos, 6-4. Starting pitcher Hermenegildo Solís played a key role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Solís surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 3. He allowed 4 runs. Vega Baja currently is in first place in the Liga Betances Costa Norteña at 24-27.
Had Gabino Sánchez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Sánchez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Caneros.
"It's about putting our team in the best position to win ballgames," said Solís.
