Limbers Take Down Peritos, 2-1
|
Celedonio Gutiérrez pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Las Piedras Peritos, despite Gutiérrez's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Aibonito Limbers at Parquecito de Las Piedras. Albán Guerrero, the winner, is now 11-10. He struck out 6 and walked 7 over 8.2 innings, while allowing 1 run on 8 hits. The save was credited to Nerón Intriago, his 4th.
Aibonito used a clutch hit from Martín Mora to snatch the win. The pinch hitter belted a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Limbers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was huge.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Limbers manager Bernabé Vargas. "This one was nice to get."
With the win, Aibonito has a record of 35-54. Las Piedras falls to 38-51.
