Ponce Beats Santa Isabel, 3-1

Ponce and Santa Isabel played a hard-fought contest.
Ponce starter Celino Cruz put a stranglehold on the Santa Isabel offense. The right-hander had complete command of his curveball in leading the Hidalgos to a 3-1 win. The winner was Cruz. He threw 7.1 innings allowing 1 run. The loser was Efraín Herrera.
Ponce right fielder Gedeón Garza landed a blow when he belted a 2-run home run in the top of the second. It was his 5th home run of the season. With it, the Hidalgos took a 3-0 lead.
"Celino throwing strikes, pounding the zone, that is exactly what you want to see," said Ponce manager Héctor Guamán.
The Hidalgos, at 51-35, sit in third place in the Liga Mariana Bracetti División Lola Rodríguez de Tió.
