The Rio Grande Zarzas defeated the Juncos Chiringas, 5-4, in Liga José Padilla action at Parquecito de Juncos. Rio Grande pitcher Víctor Hugo Morales had a standout performance. Morales, who is tied for 9th in the LJP in wins with 13, went the distance for Rio Grande. He gave up 4 runs on 4 hits. The second-place Zarzas improved to 49-36.

The Zarzas got a big hit from designated hitter Eneas Durán. Facing Juncos pitcher Ramón Muñoz in the top of the eighth, Durán pounded a run-scoring double to left-center. His 8th double of the season put the Zarzas ahead, 5-0.

Said Juncos manager Pedro Figueroa: "They just got the better of us."
