Tordos Grind Out 2-0 Win
|
In a tight contest between the Toa Baja Tordos and the Catano Canoneros, Juan Venegas was the determining factor. The Toa Baja right-hander sparkled in his team's 2-0 win. Venegas got the win, improving to 5-5. He gave up 3 hits and walked 3 over 6 innings. He allowed no runs. By defeating Catano, the 8th-place Tordos improved to 36-44.
The Canoneros had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Tordos going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old right fielder Benedicto Velásquez came to the plate. Velásquez hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch sinker from Catano hurler Cicerón Peláez. It was Velásquez's 3rd home run of the year.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Toa Baja manager Apolodoro Santos.
