"Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.

Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting.

Ezequiel Vásquez of the Rio Grande Cotorras proved the point at Recinto Atlético del Noreste, holding the Juncos Valencianos to 2 hits in a complete game shutout victory.

"Vásquez made us look real bad today," Valencianos manager Roberto Calvo said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."

Vásquez had 16 strikeouts and gave up 3 walks as the Cotorras took the 12-0 win.

Vásquez has gone 14-2 this season with an ERA of 0.95 and 154 strikeouts in 123.2 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .161 against him.
