Luis García of the Barranquitas Insignes was on top of his game.

The 21-year-old tantalized the Jayuya Picachos with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.

"He had the changeup working," Jayuya manager Jesús Baeza said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Barranquitas hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 1 walk and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.

García told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

Over the season García has thrown 175.2 innings and dished out 125 strikeouts with a 9-9 mark and a 2.10 ERA.
