Ernesto Silva of the Villalba Banqueros was on top of his game.

The 22-year-old tantalized the Arroyo Conmutadores with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 3-0.

"He had the changeup working," Arroyo manager Dagoberto Alcántar said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The Villalba hurler had 3 strikeouts, gave up 3 walks and surrendered 4 hits in his complete-game effort.

Silva told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

So far this year, Silva has a 13-2 record with a 1.54 ERA.
