Stevedores Take Tight Tangle
The Newport Stevedores overcame a pretty good performance by Swansea left fielder Chris Senner, beating the Copper Lords, 10-9, at Stevedores Stadium. Senner went 5-5 with 2 doubles and 3 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. Newport currently is in last place in the Baseball Federation of England & Wales Undeb Pel-fas Cymru at 56-73.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, Víctor Martínez wanted to seize the moment and deliver a clutch hit. Swansea pitcher Peter Rodgers had other ideas. He wanted to end the Newport rally. What happened next? With two outs, Martínez hit a run-scoring single -- and the Stevedores erupted in celebration.

"The crowd was juiced," said Martínez.
