Fairweather Park hosted a real pitchers' duel.
Rochester wasted a solid 8-inning effort from starting pitcher Martín Torres, losing to Irondequoit, 2-0, at Fairweather Park. Ross Best, credited with the win in relief, is now 19-6. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 4.1 innings.
Ramón Velasques had a big run-scoring double for the Peach Kings in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Irondequoit leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Martín Torres, who is tied for 6th in the EGLA with a 0.95 WHIP, and swatted a double to left. It was his 16th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Peach Kings ahead, 2-0.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Velasques.
Irondequoit is now 74-48, 8 games up in the Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Ontario.
