Both teams had their chances, but the Erie Commodores eventually prevailed.

The Erie Commodores picked up a win at Erie Naval Yards, downing the Buffalo Hopper Boys, 4-3. On the mound for Erie was right-hander Clay Marple, who played a pivotal role in the win. In 9 innings, Marple surrendered 10 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs.

The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Sófocles Díaz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Buffalo pitcher Jack Pfiester, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Erie on top, 4-3.

"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Erie manager Bobby Attwood.

The Commodores improved to 43-44.
